Answer:

The internet provides an almost endless source of age-appropriate reading material. For our 10 year old daughter, one of the most motivating elements of ReadOn has been the way it has allowed her to access text of interest independently. She has been able to copy information from the internet about a particular subject, and read it independently. When she comes to a word she doesn’t recognize, she can choose from the word assist options (sweep, spell or just read) in order to decode. If meaning is lost, she can listen to the text, word, phrase or paragraph at a time. For our daughter this has been incredibly motivating to be able to access whatever written texts have interested her, and to be able to decode and comprehend them without anyone else being present.

You also have the ability to enter your own text in ReadOn directly. For the reading exercises, we have kept our daughter motivated by entering jokes. She has taken great delight in spell reading a joke and then listening to the whole joke in the various voices included in ReadOn.  Read OutLoud
